世界一長い英単語の覚え方
ギネスブックに載っている
世界一長い単語を調べてみました。
塾生がたまたま質問してきたのです。
「pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis」
（微細なシリカの塵を吸入することによってかかる肺疾患の一種）
と載っています。
全部で４５文字あります。
これで１単語となっていますが、もちろん造語です。
この単語を覚えてしまおうと思いました。
最初の頃は、途中で途切れることがしょっちゅうでしたが、
今ではスムーズにいえるようになりました。
覚える決め手は、やはり分解することです。
「pneumono」（ニュウモノウ）肺に関する、
「ultra」（アルトラ）超・ウルトラ、
「microscopic」（マイクロスコウピック）顕微鏡でしか見えない、
「silico」（スィリコウ）シリカに関する、
「volcano」（ボルケイノウ）火山、
「coniosis」（コウ二オウスィス）
silicon（珪素)とsilicosis（珪肺症）の合体、
と分けることができます。
あなたも挑戦してみてください。
ちなみに、シリカは二酸化珪素のことで、
大雑把に言うと、ガラスの原料です。
